Fillmore Container FAQ: Glass Bottles, Jars, Coupon Codes & Everything Else You're Wondering

If you're looking into Fillmore Container for jars, bottles, or lids, you've probably spotted the discount code offers and wondered how it all works. Or maybe you're a small-batch producer trying to figure out if they're the right fit compared to the big guys.

I've spent the last few years reviewing packaging orders before they go to customers—roughly 200+ unique items annually—for a mid-sized cosmetics company. We've used Fillmore for about 40% of our glass packaging needs since 2022. Here are the answers I wish I had when I started.

Does Fillmore Container offer a coupon code or discount for first-time buyers?

Yes—they regularly run coupon codes. As of January 2025, the most common ones are a flat 10% off your first order or free shipping above a certain threshold. The codes change quarterly, and they're usually posted on their site or shared through email signups.

Here's what I learned: don't just grab the first code you see. In our Q1 2024 audit, we found two different active codes that gave slightly different discounts depending on the order size. One was better for small orders under $100, the other worked out better for bulk. The customer service team confirmed both were valid, but the smaller one didn't apply to case quantities.

(Prices as of January 2025; verify current codes on their site, as these rotate.)

What's the actual quality like compared to Berlin Packaging or Uline?

From the outside, it looks like most glass packaging is the same—glass is glass, right? The reality is consistency varies. I've rejected a lot of first deliveries in 2023 and 2024 due to mold variations, glass thickness differences, and lid tolerances that were just off.

Most buyers focus on price-per-unit and completely miss the inspection cost and rejection rate. On a $2,000 order, a 5% defect rate can cost you $100 in time and replacement. For Fillmore's standard glass jars, I'd say their defect rate runs about 2-3% based on our 15 orders over two years. That's slightly better than some cheaper import suppliers, but not as tight as Uline's premium line.

The lids are where I've seen more variation—specifically the seal consistency. We rejected one batch of 500 lids in Q3 2024 because the inner liner wasn't adhering evenly. The vendor redid it at their cost, but the delay cost us a launch. Granted, that's one batch out of a lot, but something to be aware of if your product relies on a tight seal.

People assume the highest price means the best quality. What they don't see is that mid-range vendors like Fillmore often offer better consistency for the price point—they're not cutting corners to compete with the cheapest importers.

Do they have everything I need, or will I need multiple vendors?

This depends on what 'everything' means. Their core strength is glass bottles and jars in standard sizes—think 4 oz, 8 oz, 16 oz, 32 oz mason jars, Boston rounds, swing-top bottles. They also carry a solid range of plastic caps, metal lids, and some dispensing closures.

But—well, here's where it gets specific. If you need custom-printed labels, specialized dropper tops, or tamper-evident bands in small quantities, they don't stock those (or the selection is thin). We source dropper bottles from two different suppliers because Fillmore's dropper cap options are limited to black and white plastic, no glass droppers for small runs.

For small batch producers making hot sauce, jam, or candles? They're probably a one-stop shop. For cosmetic or supplement brands with specialized dispensing needs? You'll likely need a second vendor. I get why that's frustrating—I wanted it to be everything too. But it's better to know upfront than to discover it mid-production.

How does shipping work, and what does it actually cost?

This is the question everyone asks that they should ask differently. The common question is 'what's the shipping cost?' The better question is 'what's the total cost to my door for a mixed pallet of item A and B?'

Glass is heavy. Shipping a case of 12 quart-sized mason jars can cost $15-25 via standard ground (based on recent quotes to New Jersey, accessed December 2024). For mixed orders, they consolidate by weight and dimensional weight, which can sometimes work in your favor if you're ordering dense items.

What surprised me: Fillmore doesn't automatically upgrade to freight shipping for larger orders—you have to ask. In Q2 2024, I placed what I thought was a 'large' order (roughly $400 worth of jars and lids) and it shipped in 8 separate boxes via UPS. The shipping cost was higher than if they'd consolidated onto a pallet. No one told me. Now I always specify 'consolidate shipping where possible' in the order notes.

Shipping rates vary; check their checkout calculator for current rates before placing a large order.

Is Fillmore Container good for new businesses or home crafters?

Actually—yes, and here's why I changed my mind on this. When I started, I assumed they were only for medium-scale producers. Their site can feel a bit industrial, and the case-pricing doesn't jump out to you as friendly for small runs.

After 5 years of managing procurement for different sized companies, I've come to believe that they're actually one of the better options for small batch producers and craft makers. Here's why:

  • They sell single cases, not full pallets.
  • Their stock is consistent—you can order the same jar today and six months later, and it will be the same supplier.
  • The coupon codes make a real difference on a $200 order.

The downside? Their customer service is professional but not super hand-holdy. If you call asking 'what size lid fits this jar?' they'll tell you, but they won't walk you through your entire packaging design. To be fair, that's not their job—they're a distributor, not a packaging consultant.

What's the one thing most people don't check that they should?

The lid and jar compatibility across different product lines. This cost us a redo in 2023.

We ordered 500 of their 8 oz sleek jars and 500 of their standard 8 oz jars, assuming the same lid size. The sleek jars take a 70-400 neck finish; the standard ones take a 63-400. The lids are not interchangeable. We didn't catch it until we were lining up the filling line. That quality issue cost us about $22,000 in redo and delayed our launch by two weeks.

Most buyers check the capacity and shape. The question they should ask is 'what neck finish does this jar use, and is that lid in stock?' It took me that one expensive lesson to learn it.

Are there any hidden costs or things I should budget for?

I don't have hard data on every order, but based on our experience, here are three things that added to our total cost:

  1. Shipping upgrades for fragile items — Some glass items are packed very well, others are just adequate. For one order of thin-walled bottles, we paid $30 extra for 'fragile handling' and repacked them ourselves anyway.
  2. Minimum order thresholds for coupon codes — Some codes require a $100 or $200 minimum before discount applies. Not all codes advertise this clearly at first glance.
  3. Return shipping for rejected items — They accepted our reject batch, but we paid return shipping. On 500 pounds of glass, that's not trivial.

None of these are dealbreakers—I still order from Fillmore regularly. But budget-wise, assume your final cost will be about 10-15% higher than the quoted price after shipping and potential fees. That matches what I've seen across multiple B2B packaging suppliers, not just Fillmore.

Bottom line: Fillmore Container is a solid, reliable choice for standard glass packaging—especially if you're a small to mid-size producer and you pay attention to the details. Use a coupon code, check your neck finishes, and ask about freight consolidation for larger orders. The mistakes that cost you money aren't usually in the product quality; they're in the assumptions you make about compatibility.
